Meet Tyler

THE MAN BEHIND THE PROMISE

He was so much more than the uniform.

He was my fiancé, their “daddy tyluhhh,” a brother, a son, a protector, a soft place to land, and the person who made ordinary life feel like home.

WHO IS TYLER?

The sweetest soul.

Tyler was the kind of person people felt safe with. He was patient, protective, funny, stubborn, soft, and deeply loving.

He loved Dr Pepper, Lego sets, Star Wars, and his Ford Raptor. He could be completely serious one minute and talking to me in a ridiculous baby voice the next.

He was flawed, like every person is, but he worked on himself. He tried. He loved hard. And he made the people around him feel cared for in a hundred little ways that probably seemed ordinary at the time.

THE LITTLE THINGS

The things that made him Tyler.

These are the pieces of him I never want the world to reduce to a badge number or a headline.

He took care of us.

He opened doors, walked on the proper side of the road, cleaned, fixed little things, and made sure everyone around him was okay.

He was soft with the kids.

He put Band-Aids on booboos, tucked them into bed, read bedtime stories, and became “daddy tyluhhh” because he stepped up when he never had to.

He always needed to be close.

If we were sitting together, he wanted to be touching me somehow — a hand, a leg, an arm, anything. Personal space was apparently not part of his vocabulary.

He made me laugh.

He was goofy, sweet, and funny in ways that don't show up in a uniform photo. That version of Tyler matters just as much as Deputy Martin.

MY FIANCÉ

There was a whole future attached to his name.

Tyler wasn't just someone I loved. He was the person I was building a life with.

We had plans, routines, inside jokes, a wedding, kids to tuck in, errands to run, arguments to get over, things to laugh about, and a whole collection of ordinary moments I thought we'd have forever.

That is part of why Tyler's Promise matters so much to me. Behind every first responder is a whole person, and behind that person are people who love them, depend on them, laugh with them, wait for them to come home, and imagine a future with them.

He wasn't only a hero in uniform. He was home.

WHY TYLER'S PROMISE EXISTS

Because the person behind the badge matters too.

Tyler's Promise exists because first responders spend so much of their lives being the person everyone else calls when something is wrong.

They deserve somewhere to turn when they are the one who needs backup.

This foundation carries Tyler's name because I never want his story reduced to the way he died. I want people to know how he lived, how he loved, what he meant to us, and why his life continues to matter.

We say his name. We tell his story. We keep the promise.
